Xinjiang Medical University

Xinjiang Medical University, which is located in the beautiful city of Urumqi, is the only higher-education medical university jointly established by provincial and ministerial departments in Xinjiang. With the care and support of Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai, the predecessor of the university, Xinjiang Medical College, had been officially included in the 156 key projects of the national "First Five-Year Plan". The university was founded in 1954 and began its enrollment from July 1956. In June 1998, Xinjiang Medical University was established by merging Xinjiang Medical College and Xinjiang Traditional Chinese Medicine College. In August 2016, the university was officially approved as the higher-education university jointly built by the provincial and ministerial departments.

At present, there are 17,290 staff and teaching members, including 1,544 teaching faculty and administrative staff, 490 of which (31.74%) have senior professional titles. There are approximately 28,300 full-time students, including 22,298 undergraduates and junior college students, 4,853 master’s degree candidates, 555 doctoral candidates, and 580 international students of all levels.

Xinjiang Medical University consists of 25 colleges that offer 28 and 10 majors for undergraduates and junior college students, respectively. Clinical medicine discipline ranks in the top 2.63‰ of the ESI global rankings, while pharmacology and toxicology disciplines ranks in the top 1% in the ESI global rankings.
